FAQ - David Winston's Two-Year Herbalist Training Program

Hi there,

I'm sending one last email with details about David Winston's Herbalist Training Program.

Basics about the Two-Year Program:

  • 2-year course starting in Sept. 2024
  • Classes are Tuesday nights, 5:00-9:30pm EST, held virtually
  • Classes are live (you can ask questions!) and also recorded
  • Recordings are available for the duration of the program and for six months after the program ends.
  • There are local plant walks for local students that are filmed for distant students.
  • You learn how to be a clinical herbalist. Very thoroughly.

Why this program is great:

  • THE TEACHERS ARE INCREDIBLE. (I realize I'm one of them so this counts as bragging but truly, the other teachers are amazing).
  • The Materia Medica sheets are invaluable. This is an info sheet you get about each herb, including insights from David's decades of clinical practice, historical & traditional uses, and up-to-date clinical studies.
  • You get a lot of support. I suspect much more support than in other online programs. There are many ways to ask questions, both live and in a forum. Eileen is available for admin support. David & Eileen offer alumni support & connections.
  • You will feel confident enough to talk about herbs with medical professionals.
  • You will feel confident to offer clinical consultations and know about herb-drug interactions.
  • You will feel confident in identifying well-made and poorly-made herbal products.
  • You will feel confident.

FAQ

Is David still teaching the program?

Yes! David is teaching the classes the he specializes in, and he's co-teaching the Materia Medica classes with Andrew Apello and Richard Mandelbaum. He's grading student formulas and you can ask him questions through an online forum. David also attends online Zoom hangouts with students.

Is it live? Recorded?

Classes are held live on Tuesday nights. There's an ongoing chat so you can ask questions. Classes are also recorded; you'll have access to the recordings for 6 months after the class ends.

Are there in-person meet ups?

There are local plant walks that students can attend. The plant walks are recorded so that students who can't attend can watch them online.

What part do you teach?

I teach the herbal pharmacy classes, aka herbal medicine-making. They're demo classes in which I walk you through how to make all sorts of herbal preparations. You get recipe books ahead of time so that you can make the recipes along with me if you like.

Do you have an affiliate program?

Yep! If you sign up "through me" you'll be invited to join a Locust Light study hall group that will consist of 4 live virtual study halls that will take place over the two years of the program. I don't have a special link, you just have to mention my name when you sign up.

What satisfies the Anatomy & Physiology Requirement?

Our very own teachers, Wendy Warner, MD, ABIHM, IFMCP and Andrew Appello, DACM, MSN, L.Ac., APN, RH(AHG), have just launched their amazing A&P course.

Tammi Sweet offers and online A&P course that fulfills the requirement, and college-level A&P courses also fulfill the requirement.

How can I learn more about the teachers?

Attending a class by a teacher is, hands-down, the best way to know if a teacher is a good match for you.

We hosted a series of free classes over the winter/spring so you could get to know us and our teaching styles.

You can still access the recordings to all the classes by signing up here.

If you have a question about the program...

  1. Watch the most recent free class. (Spring Mocktails). There's a good chance your question was answered there.
  2. Reply to this email. I'll answer it.
  3. If I can't answer it, I'll ask Eileen. She knows everything.

Herbalism for your real life.

Herbs can make your life better. I can show you how. I teach herbalism to beginner and intermediate herbalists, both online and in my classroom in Stockton, NJ. I'm also the Herbal Pharmacy teacher at David Winston’s Center for Herbal Studies, where I teach clinical herbalism students to make medicinally potent preparations. I emphasize deliciousness in herbal preparations and only measure ingredients when I absolutely have to. I love crosswords, cozy mysteries, and searching for gnomes in the mossy crevices along the nearby creek.

Locust Light Farm Hi there, Did you have a chance to check out Herbs for Resilience yesterday? It's a free class that's a sample of my program Herbs for Living. After nearly a full year, I've revamped Herbs for Living and I'm excited to introduce it to you. Herbs for Living will teach you herbalism + personal ritual to support you through life's big feelings. Locust Light Farm want to add herbal tools to your resilience tool basket? Hi Reader, Every time I teach this class, the topic feels more relevant than ever. I hate that. Yes, I can zoom out and focus on how we're collectively growing and broken systems need to collapse etc., but mostly I wish that we weren't amid war and climate catastrophe and mass extinction and general unsafeness. I want everyone to be safe. Even for those of us who are generally safe, it's hard to be navigating life...

Locust Light Farm Hi friend, I've been updating my "Herbs for Resilience" class in preparation for announcing my new-and-improved Herbs for Living course. It's surreal to be writing about resilience as I see pictures of the devastation throughout the southeastern U.S. No amount of herbs can prepare you for your home being destroyed. When I follow my daughter around in our yard, I scuff my feet into the dusty soil. We've been in a drought since June, and I've been praying for rain. I had been...
